Danny Gokey Next American Idol

So it all comes down to this. Only 1 guy and 1 girl from this week will be sure to get through to the Top 12. If Danny Gokey doesn’t win this round he may be asked back to participate in the Wildcard round. In the Wildcard Round Danny would have a second chance to make it to the Top 12. It is much harder than previous years to advance to the Top 12. We need to support Danny.

Here’s how to vote for Danny Gokey.

Tomorrow night we will finally get to see Danny Gokey perform again. American Idol Season 8 has many changes from earlier seasons. One of the changes is that only 12 of the remaining 36 contestants will perform this week (Group 1). Next week (Group 2) will perform (6 guys, 6 girls), and the following week we will see (Group 3) perform (6 guys, 6 girls).

So, Tuesday the 17th Danny Gokey and the other 5 guys, and the 6 girls in his group will perform (Stephen Fowler, Ricky Braddy, Brent Keith Smith, Michael Sarver, Anoop Desai) (Jackie Tohn, Anne Marie Boskovich, Alexis Grace, Stevie Wright, Tatiana Del Toro, Casey Carlson).

On Wednesday the 18th we will get the results.

So we finally get to voice our opinion. It is time to vote, and we need to vote. Only 1 guy and one girl from this week will for sure get through to the Top 12 as well as the next highest vote getter (regardless of sex). If Gokey doesn’t win this round he may be asked back to participate in the Wildcard round. Here he will have a second chance to make it to the Top 12.

A shocking twist to the release of the top 36 has occured. Joanna Pacitti has been disqualified from competing in American Idol. The FOX station ruled, “that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition”. Joanna Pacitti has been replaced with Felicia Barton.

I am still shocked by American Idol Season 8’s decision to have the scary ‘Judges Mansion’, ’sing-offs’ etc. I think we all know that they already made their decision, and the ’sing-offs’ and the ’sing for you life’ stuff was for us. If Cowell, Jackson, Abdul and DioGuardi hadn’t already made their and they used that as the method of deciding whether someone stays of not is just wrong. In the real world artists rehearse, practice and prepare for performances. You could argue the judges were testing there mental strength, but many people get strength from knowing they have rehearsed, practiced and that they have prepared. That was a stupid American Idol episode.

American Idol Season 8 announced it’s Top 36 on last nights show and Danny Gokey is through, but unfortunately Jamar Rogers wasn’t so lucky. I am shocked that he didn’t get through. So, were all the contestants when Jamar came back into the holding room shaking his head. There were sounds of shock and disbelief from the other contestants. Gokey couldn’t believe it either. Danny had to asked Jamar, ‘you’re messing with me, right’. He clearly thought Jamar was playing a joke on him. When Jamar said, ‘no I am not’, you could just see the disappointment on Danny’s face. It is disappointing. He isn’t Danny Gokey, but Jamar Rogers is certainly a talented singer.

The judges told Jamar that he took some risks in Hollywood week that did not pay off, but to come back next year. I really hope he doesn’t lose heart and he does come back next year. It is really too bad for Danny Gokey as well. Of course he is happy that he got through, but I think he has really benifitted by having the support of Jamar Rogers.

As for the rest of the show I thought it was a little riduculous. First off the contestants were taken something called the ‘judges mansion’. Then there were ’sing-offs’ where some contestants had to ’sing for their lives’ like they were involved in some sort of old west singing-duel. We didn’t actually get to see any performances. I think that is why people watch American Idol. They want to see talent artists develope and find themselves while performing. We want to see great perfomances, not this dramatic ’sing-off’ garbage.

What is next:
The remaining 36 American Idol contestants have been broken into 3 groups of 12. Each week one of the groups will perform. The highest male and female vote getter will be through, as well as the next highest vote getter (male or female doesn’t matter). In the 4th week there will be a wild-card group which will consist of performers from the previous 3 weeks where they are given one last chance to get through.

What does this mean for us?? It means it is time to vote and support Danny Gokey. Be sure to watch the show and vote for him. It is much harder to get into the American Idol Top 12 with this new Season 8 format.

Thankfully, that was a very stressful show. Not because we didn’t think that Danny Gokey was going to get through, but more because we all want Danny’s friend Jamar Rogers to get through. I think Jamar proved last night that he is a serious talent as well. He certainly has a different type of sound than Danny, but he certainly earned is spot on American Idol Season 8. Jamar Rogers sang, ‘Hey There Delilah’ by the Plain White T’s, and it was really solid. I really liked it. Danny told Jamar backstage that from what he heard, it was amazing.

I am really impressed with that. Gokey had not even performed yet, and of course he was stressing because he wants to win American Idol just like everybody else, but he still had all the time in the world to support a friend. I think you can judge people by their actions, and I think that this alone tells us what kind of a guy Danny is.

On to Danny’s performance. Gokey was awesome last night! Awesome!! He sang Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance. I have heard the song before, but I wouldn’t put it up there with my favorites. That doesn’t matter, Danny’s vocals were outstanding! It was shockingly good.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to hear the judges comments. Part of the new format for American Idol Season 8 is that the judges are not supposed to comment after the performance. Instead the contestants were sent to one of 4 rooms. From time to time throughout the night a contestant was told to switch rooms, and at the end of the night the 3rd room was told to go home.

However, you can always count on Paula Abdul to let emotions get the better of her. Towards the end of Danny’s performance Gokey belted out the line, ‘I hope you dance’ with such power and authority that Paula couldn’t help, but get to her feet and cheer.
